Last week, information about the mysterious situation with a patient who was refused an operation began to be actively discussed in social networks and local media. After numerous publications by the medical organization in which the specialist works, an internal review was initiated. As it turned out, there were no violations in the actions of the doctor, since the patient had obvious contraindications to the operation.

Here is how a professional, a plastic surgeon from Moscow, Alexei Fedorov, commented on the situation.

— I am ready to explain what the refusal of the surgeon means, and in what cases I do not perform operations on my patients. A plastic surgeon may refuse to provide a service when he does not see the patient's firm confidence in his decision, if the patient doubts the need for surgery, cannot clearly express his expectations, and also in cases where there are no real indications for surgery or numerous contraindications.

Each of my patients strives to look younger, thinner, curvier, in order to comply with the canons of beauty. At the same time, many women do not understand that the concepts of “fashion” and “trend” are very blurred in plastic surgery. And it's dangerous to match them! Despite the fact that plastic surgery is designed to give confidence, opening the door to a new life, it can also do harm and not bring the desired result.That is why in some cases we, plastic surgeons, are forced to refuse our patients.
