The fate of the first Russian sports car – where did Maroussia disappeared

Not far from our driving school Auto -Club On Paveletskaya there is a museum of retro cars (near the Ilyich Square). One of its exhibits is the domestic sports car Maroussia. The first and present time in Russia in Russia of this kind, developed and released by the actor, showman, racer Nikolai Fomenko. The car is beautiful in itself (its design was developed by Nikolai Fomenko and Maxim Shershnev like the Su-34 fighter), has very impressive characteristics (engine 420 hp, develops a speed of more than 250 km/h, acceleration to hundreds per 3.8 seconds). The interior also resembles the cabin of the fighter pilot (a bunch of monitors and monitors on the dashboard, a specific shape of the steering wheel and chair). What happened? Why the brand Marussia He “shot” at the exhibition in Frankfurt in 2009 and did not receive further development? Let's try to tell about The first Russian sports car and where Maroussia disappeared.

The whole history of the brand, which has not developed, accumulated and burnt, can be characterized as a pursuit of a creative, enthusiastic and fascinated person – Nikolai Fomenko. Actor, Show-Men, Fomenko came to professional motorsport in adulthood, after 30 years. He just “fell ill” with cars. The person wanted to create something that the whole world would talk about, to glorify the domestic automobile industry. At the same time, the history of the brand was closely intertwined with the history of the Russian team “Maroussia”, the second team from Russia in the history of the Formula 1 races.

The brand Marussia Motors appeared in 2007. Nikolai Fomenko acted as an ideological inspirer of the company, entrepreneur Efim Ostrovsky (by the way, he advised Mavrodi) “PR” a brand, and the gene preferred to stay in the shade. The director and chief investor (in the 90s he was the deputy general director of Goznak, then successfully engaged in entrepreneurial activities; by the way, he brought Dandy to the Russian market).

Sports car Maroussia was developed in two modifications: B1 and B2. Both modifications were distinguished by an original, incomparable design. Designers and creators drew inspiration into aircraft (a sports car should not ride, but fly!) The “filling” was stuffed with the most diverse, both from domestic cars, and from foreign ones. The engine was originally used by Nissanovsky, subsequently the company entered into an agreement on the supply of engines from Cosworth (specially designed engines based on the Cadillakovsky). The exhibition sample was collected in just 10 months and was presented first in Moscow. Although the car was gathering almost shrubly, in a big hurry, he produced a splash. The sports car looked bold, competitive. Then the red-black car of the brand (in 2009) went to the exhibition in Frankfurt. Foreigners became interested, 400 orders were collected for about 100,000 euros. However, the prepayment was made only for 20 cars. In fact, only 4 cars will sell for the entire time of the brand's existence. In 2010, Maroussia introduced at the exhibition an SUV “Marussia F2”, with an original design, but it also did not go into mass production.

In parallel (in 2009) Maroussia She became partners of one of the teams Formula 1. The brand “PR”, but financial affairs were not very going on, and the racing team “Marusi” accumulated debts, and they did not show the results in races. In 2012, the team was removed from participation in the races, as their car did not pass some of the crash tests.

As a result, the project was closed (in April 2014). The closing of the brand is associated with a very loud court case related to the repayment of huge loans.

Dream about Russian Marusa, which will enter the world market and become a sought -after sports car, remained an unattainable dream.
