Sormovo cinema Burevestnik: reboot

Friends! In October, the Burevestnik cinema, a truly legendary cultural institution, opened after repairs in the Sormovsky District. By the 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod, the facade of the cinema, the roof and the entrance group were repaired. The building has been restored to its original yellow color.

A bit of history. This building in the style of Stalinist classicism was built in 1955. The cinema was opened on May 1 of the same year. As reported in one of the May issues of the Krasny Sormovich newspaper, it was named in honor of the petrel of the revolution – our fellow countryman, the great proletarian writer A. M. Gorky. The spacious auditorium was designed for 550 seats, it was distinguished by a beautiful carved ceiling and excellent acoustics. Two high staircases from the foyer led to the concert hall, where more than 200 people could rest before the show. In the first days of May, Burevestnik was visited by about 10,000 Sormovichi residents. Today Burevestnik is also a public and leisure center of the district. It not only shows movies, it has 15 creative teams. Among the circle members are people of completely different social status and age – from 3 to 90 years old. And thanks to the fact that there is a ramp, people with disabilities can also participate in the events. But this is not all the transformations: in the next 2022, it is planned to carry out repair work inside the cinema.

After the renovation in 2012, the institution has changed markedly. And at the end of May, a new cozy green square opened near it – with a gazebo, wrought-iron benches, flower beds and a photo zone.

With this building, many Nizhny Novgorod residents associate the center of Sormov, and indeed the entire Sormovskiy district. Let's take a look at the history of this beautiful building.

House with pineapples

Unfortunately, Sormovo cannot boast of a large number of buildings with outstanding sculptural delights. However, there is a house in our area, which is quite generously decorated with various elements that give it a festive look. House No. 2 on Efremov Street is better known as “108-apartment”. There are really 108 apartments in the house, and for the time when he appeared in the center of Sormov, it was grandiose a lot! But due to the presence of “fruit and berry” compositions on the facades, this building is also called “House with Pineapples”.

The house was built in 1954 according to the project of the famous Nizhny Novgorod architect Yuri Bubnov. This building has become one of the samples of post -war architecture in the style of victory. The Soviet neoclassicism of the post -war years is considered to be this style, it is also often called the “Stalinist Empire” – it is based on the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 19th century, widespread in Russia after winning in the Patriotic War of 1812.

115th anniversary of the Sormovsky Transfiguration Cathedral

Friends! Yesterday, November 30, the 115th anniversary of the Sormovsky Transfiguration Cathedral was celebrated. In honor of this, a divine liturgy was committed in the cathedral and a thanksgiving prayer was served. And the volunteers of the Orthodox youth movement Sormovsky bees organized and carried out the distribution of the temple of commemorative postcards with the image of the cathedral, the icon and the text of the troparion of the main temple holiday – the transformation of the Lord.

The Transfiguration Cathedral in Sormovo is one of the most beautiful temples of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. And although this is a wonderful architectural structure from all sides is closed by concrete boxes of residential buildings, its dome, crowned with a cross, is an excellent lighthouse for everyone who wants to visit it.

The cathedral had to endure a lot for 115 years of its existence. Built according to the project of the famous Nizhny Novgorod architect Pavel Malinovsky in 1905, it differs from other city churches with its amazing architecture. There are only three such temples in the neovizantine style in Russia. The cathedral was built on each working money expelled from the salary of 1 kopecks from each ruble, and therefore the people are among the people “penny”.

Sormovo many years ago

Friends! Over the long history of Sormov, many photo documents reflecting the annals of the district have accumulated. Some places of the Sormovsky district changed so much that they remained only in the photographs. It was photo documents that were able to save the moments of a past life for us.

One of the most famous Nizhny Novgorod photographs is Maxim Petrovich Dmitriev (1858-1948).

Maxim Petrovich Dmitriev (1858-1948)

When we imagine the old Sormovo of the late 19th century. – The beginning of the 20th century, immediately recall the works of M. Dmitriev, on which the central streets, the church, and the Sormovsky plant are captured.

The work of the outstanding photo artist Maxim Petrovich Dmitriev is truly our national treasure. By chance or not, but a native of a simple peasant family of the Tambov province from twenty -eight years and until the last days connected his long life with Nizhny Novgorod, with the Nizhny Novgorod Volga region.

The architectural appearance of Sormova

Friends! Traditionally, on the first Monday of October, World Architecture Day (architect Day) is celebrated. The holiday was established in 1985 by the International Union of Architects. This year he came on October 7th.
On the territory of Sormov, there are monuments and commemorative places of the 1905 revolution, architectural structures of the Soviet period, which reflect the history of the district.
In the funds of the Sormovsky libraries there is a wonderful book of the Nizhny Novgorod local historian, the editor -in -chief of the Publishing House of the Quartz Olga Ivanovna Naumova, a hundred biographies of Nizhny houses. Several pages of this book are devoted to Sormov’s architecture.

We, living in Sormovo, sometimes do not notice how interesting in the architectural decision of the house are here. Many of these buildings are located along the most important and ancient street of the district – Comintern Street – and belong to objects of cultural heritage of regional significance (house No. 2, 117, 166, 168, 173, 175, 179, 181).
A magnificent example of the architecture of the Stalin era on the street. Comintern, d. 2, is perhaps one of the most beautiful Stalin in the city. It is also interesting in that there is a mezzanine (one -story superstructure) on the roof from the side of the street, which gives the house a formal appearance.

The famous house of the Stakhanovites is located on the street. Comintern (d. 168). This is a beautiful architectural structure with pilasters on the facade, and on the side of the fourth and fifth floors there is a niche, decorated with columns.

On the street. Comintern, d.117 is the well -known shopping center Sormovsky Zori, which can be called a real pearl of the district. In Soviet times, in this building were the Sormovskaya hotel and Ples restaurant. Before the main entrance to the shopping center, a bizarre fountain is installed, which became from a loved place of meetings and walks of all Sormovichi.

On the street. Comintern in the house 173 is a music school No. 11 named after B. A. Mokrousov. This house has a long history: a two -story building with a turcata tower, arched windows of the second floor and a memorable sign on the site of the main barricades were built in 1898 as an apartment building.

House at ul. Comintern, d. 166 – The former building of the House of Pioneers and the Second Sormovsky Public Assembly with more than 100 years of history. The building of the Second Sormovsky Public Assembly (club of engineers and employees of the Sormovsky plant) was built in 1905 by the architect P. Malinovsky in the spirit of early modernity. The house is interesting for modern decorations on the roof.

Do you know that the Gobel House is located in our area? An unusual residential building was built in 2005 on Komintern Street (house No. 127) architect Arkady Danilovich. The house is located very close to the center of the district surrounded by the famous buildings of the 30-50s of the last century and fit well into the surrounding space. It is even difficult to imagine that this house is the birth of the 21st century. The style of the building can be defined as postmodernism of the regional direction. This is the only building in the city where the facing material gave a deep, pronounced chiaroscuro plastic solution of the facade. Sophistication, ingenuity in the compilation of the facade patterns, as if woven from details and shades, is comparable to the artist’s skill, wrapping a picture of threads … hence the name is “tapestry”.

Of course, new buildings are gradually changing the appearance of Sormov, but the buildings of the pre -revolutionary and Soviet periods are of city -forming significance and are part of the complex of historically established buildings of the Comintern Street and the streets adjacent to it – the main compositional axis of the central part of the region. They, like stone giants, are guarded by the history of the Sormovsky district and do not allow us to break away from their origins.
