Russian military observers within the framework of the international Open Skies Treaty will make inspection flights over the territory of Poland and the United States. According to NIAT Khovar, this was reported on Monday by the official newspaper of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Krasnaya Zvezda with reference to the head of the National Center for Nuclear Risk Reduction Sergei Ryzhkov.

According to the data available to the publication, the observation flight on the Russian An-30B surveillance aircraft over the territory of Poland will be carried out from October 21 to 25 from the Warsaw open skies airfield, its maximum range will be 1,400 kilometers.

An observation flight over the United States on a Russian Tu-154MLK-1 aircraft is scheduled from October 21 to 26 from the Great Falls open skies airfield, the article notes. The maximum flight range will be 5,130 kilometers.

“Each of these Russian surveillance aircraft will fly along the route agreed with the observed side, and the specialists of each host side will control the procedure for using surveillance equipment and compliance with the provisions stipulated by the agreement,” the newspaper reports.

The Russian Federation ratified the Treaty on Open Skies on May 26, 2001, now 34 states are its participants. The countries parties to the treaty may overfly each other's territories in order to control military activities.
