Television on P2P

Using a free SopCast program, it is easy to watch television via P2P. Thanks to the openness of the program, there is a wide range of various international TV programs available for viewing via P2P.

The P2P protocol (Peer-to-peer) works on the same principle as Bittorrent-participants, receive video streams at the same time. Damage of flows is possible not only in SopCast itself, but also in any other outer player, for example, Windows Media Player or VLC.

The available channels today include: Discovery Channel, National Geographic, American Sports Channel ESPN, Eurosport, Animal Planet and many others. With SOPCAST, it is also possible to listen to the radio on P2P.

For viewing, you need to download the customer program: for Windows – from the official Sopcast website from the Download section.

Ubuntu users can download by connecting the repository:

Next, either the built -in Channel Guide is used (there are a lot of channels in it, but there is nothing special to watch), here it is in XML.

I looked for flower links, there were quite a lot of them, for example:

Having such links, I decided to feed them into bookmarks Sopcast, so as not to constantly add one link using Open.

Sopcast settings are default in the “~/.pysopcast” folder. Bookmarks are in pysopcast.db. To edit it, you need to download any SQLite editor. I took the following editor: SQLITEMAN (it is available from standard repositories):

Opening Pysopcast.db in SQLITEMAN, it is easy to find the Bookmarks table, it must be changed.

We fry in VIM list of SOP links (for example, those indicated above) with such a script:

At the output we get a file convenient for import into the Sopcast bookmark base. Open SQLITEMAN, click the Database- Import Table Data and indicate in the window that opens to the path to the formatted file and say that our file contains Commma Separators. By pressing the OK button, the channels are stored in the base. We save, close, restart SOPCAST.
