Blind driver accelerates to 300 km / h in a Porsche

Mike Newman accelerated the Porsche 911 GT2 to a speed of almost 298 km/h. What is unusual about this, you ask, because this supercar easily accelerates to the mark of 315, if the road were straighter and not so bumpy. And the fact that the driver of 52 years old sees nothing but emptiness.

Being blind since childhood, Mike was always sick of cars, and his stepfather only approved of the boy's hobbies. It was Newman Sr.'s voice that sounded in the driver's headphones during a recent race, suggesting whether to take it to the right or to the left, whether to accelerate or whether it's time to slow down.

A former bank clerk, Mike Newman abandoned his routine job and devoted himself only to motorsport. He created a team that organizes charity rides. Like-minded people developed a system for adapting track cars to control people with disabilities. It provides everything from dual control to a lift, in order to independently get out of the car if necessary. Working hard, Mike was rewarded in full: he already has several speed records in his piggy bank, now he claims a new one.

The Porsche accelerated to a record 186 miles per hour in a small English county, now the participants of the race are waiting for confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records, where all the data was sent.

PLOT

But Mike is not going to stop there and, together with his Speed of Sight team, intends to set a water speed record this year. If this happens, he will become the first blind person on the planet, which has no equal in speed either on water or on land.

What helped Newman when he was driving a Porsche – a sixth sense or a car stuffed with electronics, the record holder is not recognized. But in one of the interviews he noted that during the race his knees were shaking from a surge of adrenaline. Well, we willingly believe, Mike, and look forward to new victories!
